Trump’s America First Trade Strategy

The strong multilateral trade agreement created by the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) is the cornerstone of international trade agreements. FTAs have proliferated during the past three decades. Although the majority of free trade agreements (FTAs) are bilateral, others, like the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) accord, are rather big, encompassing 10 to 15 nations. The most concerning aspect of US President Trump’s ARTs is that they represent the “America First” trade strategy of the Trump administration.
