Public Accounts Committee flags excessive groundwater extraction

The Public Accounts Committee has noted that India is responsible for over 25% of the world’s groundwater withdrawals and has advised the Jal Shakti Ministry to convince states to reduce excessive extraction. The panel’s 41st report, “Ground Water Management and Regulation,” which was delivered to the Lok Sabha on April 1, contained the observations.
