The former Speaker of the Parliament was arrested by Bangladeshi police on Tuesday on suspicion of attempted murder. This was the first time a significant figure from Sheikh Hasina’s overthrown administration has been detained under the new one. The first female speaker in South Asia, Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, was also a minister.
