Lenacapavir: Breakthrough Capsid Drug Blocks HIV Entry for Six Months

The capsid is the structure that protects the virus’s RNA from its surroundings. Most changes in the capsid protein may stop HIV from entering cells. The first capsid-based HIV inhibitor in history, lenacapavir, is injected beneath the skin of the abdomen once every six months to create a slow-release reservoir that delivers the drug into the bloodstream gradually.
