Philippines Opens Coast Guard Post In Disputed Waters

To act as a “steadfast sentinel of our sovereignty” in a disputed area that is heavily guarded by the Chinese military, the Philippines inaugurated a significant coast guard post on an island in the South China Sea on Thursday. Pag-asa, which means “hope” in Tagalog, is the name of the tadpole-shaped Thitu Island, which is surrounded by white beaches.
