Nishika (16), Prachi (14), and Pakhi (12), minor sisters, jumped from the ninth-floor balcony in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, where parents had restricted access to mobile phones.
When police went to their home on the ninth floor, we found the room adjacent to the balcony locked,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Nimish Patil. According to police, a note was found on the floor of the locked room. They had written that “Sorry Papa, I’m really sorry.” Police learned that they were addicted to social media, cartoons and Korean TV shows and music. In the note, they wrote that they were not allowed. To watch Shin-Chan, Doraemon, korean TV serials and feel very lonely.
To break that addiction parents restricted their Phone access. “The children did not have their own phones, but used one of their parent’s Phone to online access”.
If social media is not regulated, it is very harmful for children. Till now, three countries (Australia, Spain, and France) have passed a law banning minors from social media to protect children. Several other countries are planning social media ban soon across Europe and Asia.
