In a decision praised as a start toward reconciliation and potential restitution, the UN General Assembly declared the transatlantic African slave trade to be “the gravest crime against humanity.” On Wednesday, the resolution was approved with 123 votes in favor, three votes against (the United States, Israel, and Argentina), and 52 abstentions.
